THOMAS L. SIEBERT

Thomas L. Siebert is a graduate of Vermilion High School, Class of 1964. In high school Mr. Siebert was Class Treasurer as a junior and was a prominent member of the National Honor Society. As a student-athlete Tom played an integral role on the 1964 basketball team that finished the season with a 16-4 record. Mr. Siebert graduated from Georgetown University in 1968 and is a 1972 graduate of Columbia University Law School.
Mr. Siebert served as the Ambassador to Sweden from 1994-1998. In 1998, he was appointed Chairman of the International Telecommunications Conference. The ITU is the United Nations specialized agency devoted to telecommunications matters and is the highest decision-making body made up of representatives of government belonging to an international treaty-making organization. Presently, Ambassador Siebert is a practicing attorney in Washington, D.C. He concentrates his practice in the international and domestic communications/information technology business sectors. His particular areas of expertise include: cellular telephone, broadcast television and radio, cable television, and various “convergence” technologies designed to advance new telecommunications applications. Tom is a member of the Federal Communications and District of Columbia Bar Associations. He also serves as a member of the Board of Visitors of Georgetown University. Residing in Annapolis, Maryland, Tom is married to the former Deborah Simpson, an economic investment banker. The Siebert’s have four children: Sarah, Lauren, Teddy and Trevor. Mr. Terry Smith a retired VHS Social Studies teacher who nominated Mr. Siebert for the Hall of Fame, will accept the plaque in his absence. Mr. Smith will be escorted this evening by VHS Student Council members Curtis Cassell and Becky Sedar.
