  Dr. Allen R. Bohl

 

Dr. Allen R. Bohl is a graduate of Vermilion High School, Class of 1966.  As a high school student he participated in basketball, tennis and track.  He attended Boy’s State and was Vice-President of his senior class.  Allen earned a bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University in 1970, a master’s in education from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1973, and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in 1978. 

His extensive career in athletic administration began as an Assistant Athletic Director at The Ohio State University, then continued as Athletic Director at the University of Toledo, Fresno State, and the University of Kansas.  For nearly 25 years, Dr. Bohl provided impressive leadership for athletic programs across the nation.  He is the author of Back Porch Swing, a heart-warming story that speaks to the importance of faith, family values, character and integrity.  Al and his wife, Sherry (Akers), who also graduated from Vermilion High School in 1966, lives in St. Augustine, Florida, where he is an adjunct professor at Flagler College, and is working on his second novel.  They have two sons, Brett Allen and Nathan Gregory, and a daughter, Heidi Cherie` Sherwin.  They are also the proud grandparents of four grandsons and one granddaughter, and another granddaughter due in October.  Dr. Bohl was escorted for the evening of induction by VHS Student Council members Allie LaForce and Bree Rivers.
