Vermilion Athletic Department Offers Youth Camps...
The Vermilion High School Athletic Department has a variety of camps that will be offered to local youth this summer.
These are great opportunities for young athletes to enjoy a healthy activity, meet friends and learn more about a sport they are interested in. All of the camps are directed by members of the VHS coaching staff. Assisting the coaches are members of the JV and Varsity teams who really enjoy getting to help and encourage the camp participants.
Linked below are the registration forms for several camps and payment can be made on-line:

Vermilion driver takes top honors at state bus Road-e-o:
School bus drivers throughout Ohio participate in regional road-e-o competitions each May, designed to test and increase their operational and safety skills.

Top participants at each regional road-e-o move on to compete at the state-level competition. Participants who score 80 percent or more of the total possible points at a regional or state competition may use that event toward their six-year recertification.
This year Vermilion's Dave Johnson is the state's Grand Champion bus driver.
Johnson has been driving a Vermilion school bus for the past 20 years. He competed against 53 of the best bus drivers in the state at The Ohio State School Bus Road-e-o.
Drivers take two written tests and have to maneuver a bus through a course with seven different obstacles. The top six drivers in each region head to the state competition.

A message from our superintendent:
On behalf of the Vermilion Board of Education, students, and staff, we would like to welcome you to our district website.
We are very proud of our school programs that enhance the lives of learners of all ages. There are valuable programs that assist parents raising their infants, full day - every day Kindergarten, high quality classroom instruction, college level courses taught in our high school, and adult education classes for mature citizens to earn their GED.
The product of collaborative work is yielding award winning accomplishments. Our high school has won the "Gold Award" from the High Schools that Work program, placing us among the top high schools in the nation. VHS also consistently earns an "Excellent" rating from the Ohio Department of Education - no high school in Ohio, public or private, is rated higher. At the elementary level, Vermilion Intermediate School has won the "High Achievement Award" which is given to the top 5% of Ohio schools making the most rapid academic progress over a three year period. As a district, we have had five consecutive years of increasing student attendance, student achievement, and graduation rate. All of these are now at historically high levels for our district. This profile of success is one reason why Vermilion is the proud recipient of the "What Parents Want" award, which is given to only the top 15% of all school districts in the nation.
We will do whatever we can to assist you in making your interaction with us pleasant, enjoyable and rewarding.
Thanks for visiting! GO SAILORS!

Energy Project Saves District $250,000 Annually...
Energy costs are a concern to all of us as prices continue to soar.
As part of keeping our facilities safe and comfortable, the Vermilion Board of Education also has taken steps to stretch our monies as far as possible. Under the guidance of the Ohio School Facilities Commission and the Ohio Department of Development innovative ways were found to get necessary maintenance done and pay for it through energy and utility savings.
As we plan for the future, studies of alternative energy sources will be made to determine the feasibility of wind, solar and other technologies. The most recently completed project also involved fixtures that reduce water consumption including some that are completely waterless.
A presentation was made by Bruner Corporation representatives at the April 14 Board of Education meeting to close out the project. I hope that you will take the time to view the attached slides for more details.

Revised Smoking Policy...
As a matter of policy, the Vermilion Local Schools do not permit smoking or the use of tobacco products in any building, at/near the entrances or exits to the buildings, anywhere on school grounds or at any school related event. Providing a tobacco free environment is consistent with the role modeling of adults for our students.
