Willow Socha Honored by American Legion

Junior Willow Socha has been selected as a District winner in the Americanism and Government Test Program sponsored by the Ohio American Legion.  This win allows Willow to advance to competition for the State winner judging.

The Americanism and Government Test program of the Ohio American Legion was created by Legionnaires of Ohio in 1936 and remains today as one of the leading youth programs sponsored by the Ohio American Legion.  The objective of the program is to inspire young students to learn more about government, the United States, and to appreciate the freedoms enjoyed by the nation's citizens.

Over 65,000 students annually take a 50 question qualifying test, which is comprised of true/false, multiple choice, and fill-in the blank questions, and a 300 word essay.  Each participant is required to write the essay on the same topic, as selected by the Department of Americanism Committee.

Eighty-four district winners are selected to compete at the State level, with 18 students selected as State finalists.  Each finalist will receive an all-expense paid trip to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. and will participate in a wreath ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery.
