Vermilion High School - Fall Extracurricular Updates

June 14, 2023

Dear Sailor Parent & Student,

The Vermilion Local School District's Board Policy 5530.01 and Administrative Guideline 5530.01 regarding the drug testing of students involved in nonacademic activities will be enforced during the 2023-2024 school year, beginning with the extracurricular activities taking place this fall season.

The policy in its entirety is available online at vermilionschools.org by navigating to the About Us tab and then selecting Board of Education. From there, click on Board Policies in the left-hand column menu which will take you to a BoardDocs site. Once there, click on Policies in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. A drop down menu will appear, which is defaulted to Policy Manual. Using the dropdown arrow, change Policy Menu to Administrative Guideline Manual. Administrative Guideline 5530.01, which details the drug testing procedure, is located in numeric order under the 5000 Students menu.

In publishing and sending this letter, we are proactively providing full disclosure of this process, which will be implemented with integrity and consistency during the 2023-2024 and subsequent school years. Please direct any questions to VHS Principal, Jen Bengele, or VHS Athletic Director, Andy Stillman. It is our hope that by providing advance notice of this updated policy that all of our students are able to fully participate in the many activities we offer here at VHS while preparing for success after high school.
