PARENT NOTIFICATION LETTER - SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT / PUBLIC SCHOOL CHOICE
November 13, 2009
Vermilion Local School District
Parent Notification Letter
School Improvement (SI)/Public School Choice (PSC)
November 11, 2009
Dear Parents,
This letter is to inform you that South Street Elementary School and Vermilion Intermediate School have been identified as in need of improvement by the Ohio Department of Education. One of the AYP subgroups, as specified by the Ohio Department of Education, attending Vermilion Intermediate School did not meet the AYP national goals in Mathematics, as assessed on the Ohio Achievement Test, for two consecutive years. Because students received instruction at South Street Elementary School prior to attending Vermilion Intermediate School, it is included in this designation.
Our local report card is an indicator of how well Vermilion Local schools did when compared with other schools in Ohio. The Report Card can be viewed at the following Internet location: http://www.ode.state.oh.us/reportcard . You will be able to see comparison results showing that Vermilion students outperformed students attending other schools across the state in most subjects and grade levels.
We have developed a plan of action to address the improvement for our students in the academic area of Mathematics. This plan includes an intervention period during the school day, as well as tutoring. Please contact Tina Swinehart, Principal of South Street Elementary School at 440-204-1704 or Bonnie Meyer, Principal of Vermilion Intermediate School at 440-204-1703, if you are interested in becoming involved in the school or would like more information on ways you can help. Our district website, www.vermilionschools.org has more information for parents about each school.
Philip M. Pempin, Superintendent
