French Honor Society Inductions
By Stacey Webb
May 14, 2010
The 5th annual induction into La Société Honoraire de Français was held in the library at VHS before school on Thursday, May 13, 2010. Led by Madame Webb and the current Société membership, 15 students were inducted into the Honor Society. Family members and administrators were also in attendance.
Membership to LaSociété is based on scholarship in general and scholarship in French in particular. Candidates must have maintained a cumulative grade of A in French and a B average or higher in all other subjects. Candidates must also participate in Le Grand Concours (National French Test) or travel to a French speaking country.
As part of the ceremony, new members were presented, signed the membership book, and stood next to a current member. As membership candles were lit, Madame Webb read “La Course du Flambeau” which recognizes the importance of passing on the torch as the continuation of scholarship. The membership then sang La Marseillaise, the French national anthem. The ceremony ended with the cording of the graduating seniors. The graduates will wear their honor cords during the 2010 graduation ceremony.
