About the Vermilion Academy

We are in the business of educating and helping our students to transition to life after school.  With the re-assigning of the school buildings and the introduction of technology to all students, Vermilion has a real opportunity to be multi-functional in its approach to education.

The Vermilion Academy is a self-paced, competency-based educational opportunity with an open entry/exit policy and flexible scheduling. This makes it possible for motivated students to earn a diploma by working one-to-one with licensed teachers outside the traditional classroom environment.  This program relies on a curriculum designed around ACT’s WorkKeys assessments for cognitive skills leading to entry into the workforce, the military, or post-secondary educational opportunities.

In addition to their diplomas, graduates from the Vermilion Academy will have the opportunity to earn the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). The NCRC is an industry-recognized, portable, evidence-based credential that certifies essential skills needed for workplace success.  This credential is used across all sectors of the economy (http://www.act.org/workkeys/analysis/).  This will give our graduates a unique advantage when seeking employment.

Key to the program will be the community connections made with: The Success for Youth Program, Lorain County Community College, and Local Unions and Employers.
• Success for Youth provides comprehensive services in mentoring, employability and support services (including some financial assistance) to our students at the Academy.
• Lorain County Community College in partnership with the Vermilion Academy is offering students who are on track to graduate an opportunity to begin college courses  at no tuition cost to the student.
• Local Unions and employers will giving presentations and tours of their facilities to our students with an opportunity for employment or sponsorship after graduation.

There will be two session at Vermilion Academy.  All students in the 11th and 12th grade will be assigned to the morning session (7:40-10:40) while all 8th thru 10th graders will be assigned to the afternoon session (11:30-2:30).

Please consider the Vermilion Academy if you think this is the best educational opportunity for your son or daughter.
