Interview on Teaching and Leading

1.  Why did you choose teaching as a profession?
I chose teaching as a profession because I feel it is the best way that I can help children’s development both in the classroom and in society.

2.  Why or how did you choose to come to Vermilion?
I came to Vermilion in the Fall of 2008.  An opening came available at Sailorway Middle School in July; luckily I was able to apply and was hired to become part of the Vermilion team. This was much closer to my family than Houston, Texas where I originally was planning to start my teaching career.

3. What do you like most about the Vermilion Local School District?
The staff at Vermilion is like a family.  Everyone is working together to achieve the same goals for the kids and for the district.

4. Give some examples of things you believe are important in teaching.
I believe making a connection with students is one of the most important aspects of teaching.  If students don’t feel comfortable with their teacher, they are not as likely to take educational risks inside the classroom.  A good rapport with students allows them to develop and begin to reach their potential.

5.  What do you think is the most important thing you offer Vermilion students?
Because I have taught Language Arts, Social Studies, and Math in different grade levels, it allows me to make connections across the curriculum to help students succeed in all subjects.

6. Describe some important influences in your life.
My parents are my biggest influences in my life. They have taught me the importance of hard work and dedication which have pushed me to be a better teacher.  They have also impressed upon me the importance of education.

7. Do you have any interests outside of your job?
I love spending time with my family.  I am married to Devon Snook, who teaches at VHS.  We live in Huron with our 10  month old daughter, Mary and two goldendoodle dogs, Jojo and Jackson.  I also coach Varsity Volleyball at Monroeville High School and club volleyball in Tiffin, Ohio.
