VHS Names Top 10 Academic Students in the Class of 2023
Vermilion High School has announced the Top 10 academic students in the Class of 2023. These students are (in alphabetical order) Patrick Anders, Andrea Appleton, Franky Lian, Scarlett Oliver, Audrey Reiter, Irene Skahen, Sydney Stacklin, Madison Stout, Madison Taylor, and McKenna Wilson.


Patrick Anders
Patrick is the son of Terry and Molly Anders.
He is a member of Golf, Tennis, Speech & Debate, Academic Challenge, Model UN, Band, and Theater.
He lists his greatest accomplishment at VHS as winning the Gay Janis Award in Congressional Debate my Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years.
He plans on attending the University of Notre Dame majoring in Neuroscience and Medieval Studies.


Andrea Appleton
Andrea is the daughter of William and Christine Appleton.
She is a member of National Honors Society, a Sunday school teacher, and sings for her church's worship team.
She lists her greatest accomplishment at VHS as being on the high honor roll for all four years.
She plans on attending Lorain County Community College for an Associates Degree in Nursing to become a forensics nurse.




Franky Lian
Franky is the son of Ming Ying Tang; Kai Hai Lian.
He is a member of Leo Club, National Honors Society, Track and Field, Swim, and Senior Board.
He lists his greatest accomplishment at VHS as graduating with a cumulative GPA above a 4.0.
He plans on attending The Ohio State University, to major in Mechanical Engineering.



Scarlett Oliver
Scarlett is the daughter of Andrea Burkey, Brandon Oliver, and Andrew Burkey.
She is a member of VHS Musicals and Winter Plays, Soundsation, National Honors Society, Student Council, National Green School Society, and Head Majorette for the VHS Marching Band.
She lists her greatest accomplishment at VHS as starring as Belle in Beauty and the Beast, and as Annie in Annie, as well as being a 2 time Head Majorette.
She plans on attending The Ohio State University and majoring in Integrated Social Studies to become a high school history teacher.


Audrey Reiter
Audrey is the daughter of Jill Baxter and Christopher Reiter.
She has been a member of National Honors Society, Track and Field, Ski Club, Art Club, and Move 2 Stand.
She lists her greatest accomplishment at VHS as keeping my grades up throughout high school to further work towards my future.
She plans on attending Miami University to study business.



Irene Skahen
Irene Skahen is the daughter of Emily and Tom Skahen.
She has been a member of National Honors Society, Basketball and Football Cheerleading, and Ski Club.
She lists her greatest accomplishment at VHS as using extracurriculars to become more welcoming towards others. She said she used as many electives as she could to her advantage in order to see what subject areas she was interested in and not interested in.
She will be attending Kent State University in the Exploratory program.




Sydney Stacklin
Sydney is the daughter of Laura Miller and Jeff Stacklin.
She has been a member of Varsity Girls Tennis, National Honors Society, Student Council, Principal Advisory Council, and has been a majorette.
She lists her greatest accomplishment at VHS as becoming a well rounded student academically, athletically, and artistically.
She will be attending the University of Akron and majoring in Corrosive Engineering.




Madison Stout
Madison is the daughter of Kelly and Amanda Stout.
She has been a member of National Honors Society, Leo Club, Peer Leadership, and Volleyball.
She lists her greatest accomplishment at VHS as being that she maintained a 4.3 GPA throughout her high school years. She has received the Seton Hill Merit Scholarship, Athletic Scholarship, and Honors Program Scholarship.
She will be attending Seton Hill University, to study Forensic Science.




Madison Taylor
Madison is the daughter of Christopher and Carolyn Taylor.
She has been a Project MORE Mentor and a member of the Vermilion Volleyball team (Freshman through Senior year).
She lists her greatest accomplishment at VHS as using the time to learn who she is as a person and how to become comfortable with who she is.
She plans to attend the University of Cincinnati in pursuit of a Doctor of Pharmacy.



McKenna Wilson
McKenna is the daughter of Shannon Byrne and Dennis Wilson.
She has been a member of National Green School Society, National Honors Society, Student Council, and Art Club.
She lists her greatest accomplishment at VHS as being proud of the collection of awards I have received for my art. She has received the Presidential Scholarship from Lorain County Community College.
She will be attending Lorain County Community College for two years then transfer to complete a degree in Art Education.
