The Purple Star Award recognizes schools with a significant commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military. Schools that earn the award will receive a special Purple Star recognition to display on-site.

The VHS Student Body is in for an extraordinary educational experience with a Live Q&A Downlink scheduled for Friday, May 23rd. This unique event will take place in the VHS Auditorium and will connect students directly with astronauts aboard the International Space Station. The initiative aims to offer students a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to engage with STEM learning and exploration. This fantastic event was made possible thanks to the efforts of Mrs. Jacinto, whose friend, NASA Astronaut Col. Anne McClain, included VHS on a special list of schools eligible to apply for this opportunity. Mrs. Bengele then dedicated her time to meticulously completing the application process. This collaborative effort ensures that VHS students will have the chance to interact with real-life astronauts, sparking curiosity and inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, and explorers."

Need a Work Permit?

Work Permit Instructions

Students who are seeking a work permit should download the application form Here
Please follow these instructions: 
  • Print the application and complete the first section, including a parent signature.   
  • The employer will need to complete and sign their section 
  • The student's doctor must complete and sign the physical form.  If the student has a current athletic physical on file, you do not need to have a doctor's signature. 
  • Bring the application to Vermilion High School where the permit will be issued.
