2022-2023 Digital Academy Information

Vermilion High School is pleased to offer a Digital Academy for students in grades 8-12 during the 2022-2023 school year. The purpose of the Digital Academy is to provide an alternative learning option for students who thrive as online learners (see 5 Traits and Habits of Successful Online Learners) and who benefit from a flexible schedule and a self-paced curriculum.

5 Traits and Habits of Successful Online Learners

1. Ability To Work Independently Successful online learners meet their daily work completion goals and reach weekly completion targets without the benefit of in-person instruction or multiple redirections to return to task. Students who require frequent reminders and immediate feedback may find distance learning challenging.

2. Strong Time Management Skills Successful online learners demonstrate the skills necessary to develop and follow a daily schedule. This requires strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize, and a realistic understanding of how long it might take to complete a task.

3. Ability To Self-Reflect Successful online learners process feedback and make adjustments to their work in order to be successful. This requires the ability to proactively make changes to one’s work habits and strategies as needed.

4. Active Participation and a Willingness to Take Advantage of Support Services Successful online learners take advantage of support services, including one-on-one virtual tutoring, daily virtual meetings, school sponsored advising, and school sponsored programs that support social and emotional health.

5. Willingness To Practice Self-Advocacy Successful online learners approach their teachers and tutors with questions. Their questions include as much detail as possible, so their instructors can provide a similarly detailed response. Online learners are their own best advocate.

Students who wish to be considered for the Digital Academy for the 2022-2023 school year must complete and submit an application no later than Monday, May 16, 2022.  Complete the application at this link:
