Post-Secondary Planning

  • Students will continue investigating college and career options through Ohio Means Jobs and O*Net.
  • Seniors meet in small groups with School Counselors to learn about future planning.  Topics covered include college admission criteria, standardized testing, a timetable for college, visiting colleges, financial aid and scholarships.
  • School-wide participation in Ohio College Application Month
  • Individual sessions during Ohio College Application Month, which include one on one, help applying to college or individual career advising and resume help. 
  • Graduate Panel discussion.

Testing Information

  • During April students will participate in the state required end of course assessments, which are required for graduation, as needed.
  • Other optional test for seniors include the ACT, SAT, Advanced Placement (AP) tests, and the ASVAB career test.  School Counselors can help students determine their readiness to complete these tests successfully. 

College Fair

  • In the fall students have the opportunity to participate in college fairs at both Lorain County Community College and Bowling Green Firelands Campus with over 100 college in participation. 
  • Vermilion High School has individual visits from over 30 colleges to answer individual student questions and discuss student concerns.

Individual Meetings with Counselor, Academic Advisement and Course Selection

  • Individual conferences are held with seniors during first semester to finalize progress towards graduation and future plans.
  • Individual appointments with students and parents to address academic, career and personal issues as needed.
  • Advise student on participation in College Credit Plus dual enrollment opportunities.  
  • Activity Fair.

Strategies are embedded in the school schedule throughout the school year for students.  These are available through:

Parent Programs

  • Parent University programs in college planning, Internet safety, College Credit Plus, and Financial Aid and Scholarships.
